A CONCEPT FOR VOCATIONAL TEACHER EXCHANGE PROGRAM

INTRODUCTION

The economies the world over are changing into knowledge based economies. The changing face of technology the world over requires an individual to be specialized in a particular skill. Only a person who is expert in a particular field can get a good job. Vocational education training institutes impart specialized and practical knowledge to a person and help them become independent at a particular age, this type of skilled labour is highly on demand in the market economy in LDCs. Vocational Education has assumed a critical importance in developing countries hence the need for personnel exchange to enhance human capital development of the teachers. Major Objectives of this Exchange Program

·         Improving employability of the youth in developing countries in various fields of profession, and this makes it easy for young                       professions to be more of Job creators than Job seekers in Africa.

·         Through the personnel exchange, there will be proper human and social capacity building through technical colleges and vocational             institutions.

·         There will be Economic and social development since vocational institutions offer Lower programme costs, short courses, lower                   dropout rates.

Expected benefits of Exchange Program to our Institutions

·         Professional development: This exchange shall completely immerse our teachers in the life of the school and the country, and so           provides them with a real opportunity to find out about contemporary issues in the education systems and cultures of the host             country.

·         A different teaching environment; Exposure to different teaching methodologies and approaches shall enrich our teaching                     practice and expand our vision.

·         A change of scene: Our institutes shall benefit when teachers return with increased motivation, refreshed enthusiasm and                   energy for teaching.

·         A basis for links, networking and joint projects; There is enormous potential for broadening pupils' perspectives on the wider                 world especially Africa. This exchange can provide a means of developing links at class or whole institute level, with the                         possibility of involving a range of colleagues in a wider linking project.

·               Self-development and awareness leading to enhanced self-confidence and self-esteem.

·               Maturity and social poise, fuelled by the necessity to confront challenges outside a familiar support network and comfort zone.

·               Integration into another family as well as the development of life-long friendships, fostering an appreciation of foreign cultures.

·               A tremendous sense of accomplishment shall at the end of each exchange round encourage Teachers to develop independent                     opinions, make informed decisions and strive to attain fresh goals.
