INTRODUCTION
Infrastructure: The department has three classrooms attached to two different blocks of buildings, two large workshops of about 10 × 7m (70m2) floor area, a store and an office. It is supplied with electricity from the main Institute distribution point. Tap water is at a close distance.
Since its inception in 1970, the department has diversified its scope of training on an attempt to meet the demands of the job market.
A serious thought has been placed on injecting doses of the new innovations in Science and Technology in the curriculum to improve its relevance. For example solar Photo voltaic (PV) Technology has been formally included in the syllabus and it is now examinable.
Other related subjects such as Mathematics, Applied Science, Electronics have been incorporated in the teaching syllabus in to order provide a strong foundation to the trainees for further advancement and also to teach them concepts that are demand driven.
Entry Qualifications
Between 1970 and 1971 when this department was at its infant stage, admissions were based on the Junior Secondary II or III, a primary level qualification. But from 1972 up to about the early 90’s admission shifted to senior four (O-level) Certificate holders. However, from that time up to date both O-Level and A-level Certificate holders are admitted for those courses.
But with the commencement of the Diploma Course in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, A-level leavers will now be admitted for courses that suit their academic qualifications.

(b) Evening Program
All the above stated trends are also offered on evening program which commences at 4:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. On Saturday it commences at 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Employment opportunities are wide and varied and include: The Power Generation Transmission and Distribution Companies, Manufacturing firms, Telecommunications Industry, Solar Energy firms, Broadcasting Industry, Commercial Sector, Service Industry such as Hospitals, Hotels, Education sector, Aviation etc.
There are also opportunities to advance to higher levels of training up to graduate level at Kyambogo University and other related institutions.
Therefore Department inaugerated its association that brings together OBs, OGs and current students to a get together ceremony called “keep in touch with all in solidarity” annually.
The major purpose of the association is to foster solidarity among those in the world of work, the outgoing students and continuing students of the Department by sharing experiences and promoting of interpersonal and group relationships.

- Maintenance and repairs of Electrical and Electronic equipment.
- Metal Works and Fabrication
- Designing of Electrical equipment such as Welding Machines, battery chargers, etc.
- Rewinding of Motors and transformers.
- Consultancy in Electrical work and Training
- Solar Photovoltaic Technology.
